Gainesville Florida Veterinary Health Packages for Felines.
Adult cats enjoy several different lifestyles - as solitary pets or as members of multi-pet households, living exclusively indoors or outdoors, or inhabiting homes with variable outdoor time. Age is also very important in selecting appropriate health maintenance protocols. Our staff and veterinarians will assess your pet's individually to help you select the package that best meet your needs.
All cats should receive health maintenance services twice a year. Most important in their care is physical examination, a critical assessment of wellness or early medical problems. Laboratory testing such as fecal examinations and heartworm tests are extremely important in parasite detection and control. Routine screening of blood and urine, especially in middle-aged and older dogs, can be life-saving in early detection of disease. Finally, vaccinations are a relatively safe and effective method to prevent serious contagious disease.
There are several vaccinations available and recommended for our feline friends. Most important, rabies vaccination is required by law and protects both the cat and indirectly family members from this fatal disease. Our practice uses a safe, non-adjuvant vaccine which is administered yearly. The feline distemper-upper respiratory virus (FVRCPP) 4 in 1 vaccine is standard and recommended for all cats annually. Vaccines are also available for leukemia virus and should be given to all outdoor cats. FIP vaccine is also recommended for cats that go outdoors or live in multi-cat households.
Packages vary by addition of elective vaccines and laboratory testing. On a single annual visit, there are 3 choices - Student (basic) package, Student package with additional elective vaccinations, and Standard Package. At the midyear point, there is one package - the Semi-Annual. The Optimum Wellness Package lasts a full year and is extremely comprehensive - see below for a thorough explanation.
